Deutsche Windtechnik establishes full service subsidiary in Sweden

Varberg, Sweden / Bremen, Germany (renewablepress) - The new business unit in Sweden was set up in September 2016, and Deutsche Windtechnik AB in Scandinavia has been growing steadily since then. The municipal utility in Varberg, Varberg Energi, commissioned the independent service provider with the maintenance of 30 wind turbines from Vestas (23x V90) and Gamesa (7x G90), with an option for 12 additional turbines. The service agreements, which are currently limited to ten years, cover complete service for the turbines, including the rotor blades and any necessary replacement of large components. The intention is to extend the contracts to cover 20 years of operation.

"The service partnership with Varberg Energi is an important step for our presence on the Swedish market in the long term. It shows that our full-service approach at all levels also works in Sweden," said Linus Sturesson, Managing Director of Deutsche Windtechnik AB. Karin Hansson, Business area manager Energy at Varberg Energi AB, emphasized: "Together with our co-owners, we are an industrial partner with high standards. This is true of all of the areas we are active in, including maintenance, occupational safety and asset management. We believe that this will be the start of a long term relationship with Deutsche Windtechnik.”

Multi-brand expertise
In addition to a full range of services through the end of the life cycle, Deutsche Windtechnik demonstrated comprehensive expertise for multiple turbine types. “Our preparations started more than a year ago. We scanned the market and have had several contacts with different vendors since we are operating turbines from four different manufacturers. We value a broad range of experiences and skills,” said Björn Sjöström, CEO Varberg Energi AB. Lars Behrends, CEO International Deutsche Windtechnik Service, summarised: "In contrast to manufacturers, our expertise is not limited to one type of turbine. We can provide services for different technologies, such as Gamesa in this case. Utilities with mixed turbine portfolios greatly benefit from this. You only need to talk to one company with one counterpart, but you still receive high-quality full service. In addition the contract contents and modalities are all equal. This saves time and resources, workflows are further optimized."

Large portfolio near headquarters
The 30 turbines included in the contract tender belong to different wind farms around Varberg, Deutsche Windtechnik AB´s headquarters in southern Sweden. Windpark (WP) Gummaråsen with 5x V90, WP Munkagård with 3x V90, WP Torebo (4x V90), WP Sotared (5x V90), WP Bondegärde (3x V90), WP Tängelsbol (2x V90), WP Stavhälla (1xV90) WP Dal (4x G90), and WP Fåleberg with 3x G90. Maintenance will be coordinated in close cooperation with the German parent company, which is making its full range of expertise available. At the same time, the number of service employees in Sweden will be increased. “We grow steadily,” explained Linus Sturesson. “We are currently planning to recruit seven more people in Sweden –
service technicians as well as administration employees.”
