Siemens Gamesa Signs Major Order in Mexico and Inaugurates its New Engineering Centre in India

Zamudio, Spain - Siemens Gamesa will supply 60 units of its SG 4.5-145 wind turbines with a flexible power rating of 4.2 MW to Enel Green Power’s Parque Amistad III and IV wind farms in Coahuila, Mexico. In India the company has inaugurated a new centre which is one of the three major R&D hubs for Siemens Gamesa around the world.

Mexican Projects were awarded during the 2017 Mexican Auction

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy made a big step forward in strengthening its product portfolio by signing the first contract featuring SG 4.5-145 wind turbines with Enel Green Power, the global renewable energy business line of Enel Group. The scope of the contract includes the supply of 24 units of the new SG 4.5-145 wind turbines with a flexible power rating of 4.2 megawatts (MW) for Parque Amistad III and 36 units for Parque Amistad IV, located in Acuña City, in the northern State of Coahuila, Mexico, for a combined total capacity of around 249 MW. Both, Parque Amistad III (100 MW) and Parque Amistad IV (149 MW) were awarded to Enel Green Power during the Mexican Auction in 2017. The scope for both projects includes a 5-year service and maintenance contract after commissioning of the turbines.

According to Siemens, these projects represent the first order worldwide for the new generation of onshore wind turbines greater than 4 MW and a tower height of 107.5 meters. The turbine offers a flexible power rating from 4.2 MW to 4.8 MW depending on site conditions. It is optimized for medium wind onshore locations to maximize energy production with low noise emission levels.

Siemens Gamesa strengthens its presence in India with a new engineering centre supporting global R&D

In India the company has inaugurated a new centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This centre is one of the three major R&D hubs for Siemens Gamesa globally, with Spain and Denmark. The centre will support global engineering and technology requirements pertaining to software and design engineering for onshore and offshore wind turbines. It will further concentrate on new age digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning thus positioned to build the next generation smart wind turbines for Siemens Gamesa. Employing a total of 500 employees currently, the centre’s employment is expected to grow to 700 by the end of 2019.

“We are happy to inaugurate our new technology centre in Bengaluru. With digitalization positioned as a key strategy for our growth globally, we are looking at developing impactful technologies that will help us create better value for our customers and society at large. Given India’s pool of talents and proficiency in both digital and mechanical technologies, we believe that this centre will be one of the key answers in achieving our vision,” said Antonio De La Torre, Chief Technology Officer of Siemens Gamesa.
