Financing Finalised: Wpd And Bank Sinopac Reach Financial Close for Taiwanese Onshore Wind Project

Bremen, Germany - Wpd subsidiary Hsinyuan Wind Power Co Ltd and Bank Sinopac, a Taiwanese bank, have finalised the financing for Wpd's Hsinyuan wind farm in Taiwan.

The wind farm comprises six Vestas V136 turbines, each with a capacity of 4.2 MW. The project is located in Yunlin County in the district of Lunbei. The project has already been built and commissioned. Financial close took place on 18 March 2024.

"Our Hsinyuan project takes advantage of the excellent conditions for wind energy on the west coast of Taiwan. With a hub height of 112 meters, the six turbines are not only currently the largest onshore wind turbines in the country, but also make a further important contribution to the success of Taiwan's energy transition"," says Ralf Ketteler, Head of International Project Finance at Wpd about the project.

Wpd expects Hsinyuan to officially go into commercial operation in the second quarter of this year. Once this is achieved, Wpd's total installed onshore wind turbines in Taiwan will officially exceed the 500 MW mark. Wpd believes this will further strengthen the company's leading position in the Taiwanese renewable energy sector.

Wpd has been active in Taiwan since 2005 and has been realising wind and solar energy projects with its own team since 2016. The company is one of the world's leading developers and operators (IRPP) of wind and solar projects and is also active in the field of power purchase agreements (PPAs). Founded in 1996, the company currently plans, finances, builds and operates wind farms and solar parks in 31 countries. The IRPP business currently comprises projects in the company's own portfolio with a total capacity of 3,192 MW.

Wpd is continuously expanding its activities in the German domestic market and internationally in Europe, Asia, North America and South America and currently has a project pipeline totalling around 19,300 MW in the onshore wind energy segment. In the solar energy segment, the project pipeline comprises around 5,000 MW.
