Nordex Scoring With Orders in Europe at The End of The Year

Hamburg, Germany – For December, wind power manufacturer Nordex reports a series of orders from Europe. These include a major order from the Netherlands for a particularly innovative project.

From diverse countries in Europe Nordex received orders totalling 308 MW in December 2019. The main sales market was Turkey with three projects totalling 105 MW. In addition to orders from Spain and Italy, among others, the Nordex Group secured orders in France (68 MW), Finland (43 MW), Germany (34 MW) and Croatia (32 MW). With 72 turbines, the majority of the orders placed were for the Delta and Delta4000 series turbines with nominal outputs of between 3.0 and 4.8 MW.

In addition as part of a unique project in the Netherlands, Nordex will be constructing a wind farm with turbines characterized by particularly low electromagnetic radiation. In December 2019 Nordex was awarded a contract to install the Dutch wind farm "De Drentse Monden en Oostermoer" (DMO). Nordex will supply 44 N131/3900 turbines including the foundations with a capacity of 171.6 MW to its customers Duurzame Energieproductie Exloermond BV, Raedthuys DDM B.V. and Windpark Oostermoer Exploitatie B.V. The "DMO" wind farm is located to the south-east of Groningen, in the province of Drenthe near Exloo in the immediate vicinity of the central antenna field of the "Low-Frequency Array" (LOFAR). LOFAR, which is run by ASTRON, the Dutch Institute for Radio Astronomy, is a Europe-wide network of thousand highly sensitive radio antennas. It is used in the world's largest array of antennas for research into the universe. The 172 MW order was awarded on condition that the emission level of electromagnetic radiation would be reduced to a predefined absolute minimum. In order to ensure that this could be done, the Nordex Group developed a predefined, extremely low-radiation version of the N131 turbine and installed the test turbine on site in the summer of 2019. ASTRON was able to confirm the very low electro-magnetic radiation on site in a highly complex measuring procedure using the LOFAR antennas and their own technology. This meant that the order for the other 44 N131/3900 turbines could be placed in December 2019. The Nordex Group booked receipt of the order for the test turbine in 2018. In its final form the "DMO" wind farm will comprise 45 turbines with a total of 175.5 MW.

Furthermore Ardian and Nordic developer OX2 are relying, for the first time, on Nordex turbines of the 5 MW class for the 286 MW wind farm "Åndberg". Nordex had already booked this order comprising 53 turbines as order intake in 2019, at that time on the basis that N149/4.0-4.5 turbines of the 4-MW class would be used. In December 2019, the customers and Nordex signed a contract for the use of even more powerful turbines at the wind farm. This makes the Åndberg project the first wind farm using the new N149/5.X turbine, which Nordex introduced in March 2019. According to Nordex, the wind farm Åndberg is currently being constructed in the province of Härjedalen, near Lillhärdal in western Sweden. Following its completion in 2021, Åndberg will annually provide clean electricity in excess of 800 GWh, making it one of the largest wind farms in Sweden. Developer OX2 delivers the wind farm through an engineering and construction (EPC) agreement with Ardian.
