Vattenfall Gives Nordex the Go-ahead – Start of Construction Work on Scottish Wind Farm

Hamburg - The Nordex Group will be supplying wind turbines for Vattenfall's largest onshore wind farm in the United Kingdom. The Swedish utility has now given the green light for the construction of the South Kyle onshore wind farm with a total capacity of 240 megawatts (MW).

Vattenfall is also entering into a partnership with the infrastructure fund Greencoat UK Wind, which will subsequently take over the wind farm.

The Scottish wind field "South Kyle" is being developed in the county of Ayrshire, east of the city of Dalmellington, on an extensive wooded highland area, which is mainly used for commercial forestry. The Nordex Group is installing 50 N133/4.8 strong wind turbines here and will also be maintaining the turbines on the basis of a premium service contract with a term of 10 years. he Nordex Group booked the contract for this project in the first quarter of 2020. Vattenfall has now given the go-ahead for construction to commence. Once it goes into operation in the first quarter of 2023, the wind farm will be able to supply around 170,000 British households with electricity.

"Vattenfall is a very important partner for our activities in Europe. We are pleased to equip South Kyle with the strong-wind N133/4.8 turbine from the Delta4000 series. Our highly efficient technology is particularly important to maximise electricity production", says Patxi Landa, CSO of the Nordex Group.

Vattenfall has entered into a partnership with Greencoat UK Wind, an infrastructure fund for renewable energy. The British investment company will take over the wind farm after its completion in early 2023. Vattenfall will build the wind farm and manage the wind turbines on behalf of Greencoat for at least 10 years. Vattenfall will also purchase the electricity for a period of 15 years. The agreement with Greencoat UK Wind also provides for a £38 million investment over the life of the wind farm for the benefit of the communities of Dalmellington, Patna, New Cumnock and Carsphairn.
