Windguard Launches New Online Shop and Starts New Offer for Mobile Testing of Dynamic Performance

Varel, Germany - With the launch of its own web store, wind tunnel specialist Deutsche Windguard wants to expand its service for sensors, their calibration and maintenance. Another novelty at the Windgard Group concerns the area of Fault-Ride-Through-Tests. Here, the wind energy service provider now has a mobile testing facility that can be used directly at the customer's site.

Wind measuring instruments, calibration and maintenance from one single source

Customers of the wind service provider Deutsche Windguard are increasingly requesting to purchase the actual wind sensors from the company, in addition to their calibration. With the new portal, Windguard wants to further simplify this process for their customers, says Catharina Herold, Windguard wind tunnel services’ operational manager, under whose leadership the online shop was created.

Deutsche Windguard not only offers cup and sonic anemometers, propeller anemometers and wind vanes from various manufacturers, but also accessories such as adapters and cables. Also services such as measurements, calibrations and classifications of sensors, calibrations of other devices such as static pitot tubes as well as various inspection and maintenance arrangements can be ordered online. According to Windguard, the calibrated sensors offer customers double reliability and additional quality control, because the four calibration wind tunnels in Varel, which are accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS), are "among the most precise in the world". In one of them, a transfer standard from the German national metrology institute Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is installed. PTB uses this wind tunnel as a reference wind tunnel for its own calibration of flow sensors.

New fault-ride-through test equipment can be used directly at customer's site

Windguard Certification, the certification body within the Windguard Group, now offers a complete package of electrical characteristic measurements on power generating units, such as wind turbines, photovoltaic systems, energy storage facilities and internal combustion engines. For this purpose, the experts from Varel have just introduced a new mobile test unit for dynamic performance. Windguard Certification offers manufacturers not only the certification of prototypes, but also all measurements necessary to obtain the required proofs according to VDE-AR-N 4105, VDE-AR-N 4110, VDE-AR-N 4120 and IEC 61400-21-1.

According to Windguard, the new test unit allows fault-ride-through (FRT) test procedures to verify dynamic grid support according to applicable guidelines such as FGW TR3, IEC61400-21-1 and the latest revision of DIN VDE V 0124-100 published in June 2020. This test standard requires a proof of grid stabilizing abilities even on smaller power generating units intended to be connected to the low-voltage grid. The new mobile test unit allows verifying the dynamic performance ability of power generating units up to a nominal capacity of 1 MW in accordance with all current guidelines and standards. The unit offers the possibility to configurate a wide range of fault conditions – for example, the undervoltage drop depth and the overvoltage excess are variably adjustable. Even two-phase faults are possible.
