Deutsche Windguard Successfully Carries Out Tests at Global Tech I Offshore Wind Farm

Varel, Germany - Due to the harsh weather conditions and local conditions at sea, offshore wind turbines are exposed to special challenges. The successful performance of periodic inspections is of central importance for the safe and reliable operation of the turbines.

The wind energy service provider Deutsche Windguard has strategically repositioned the service area inspections of wind turbines with the accreditation as inspection body type A according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 and prepared it for the future. At the beginning of June, Deutsche Windguard Inspection GmbH, which was founded for this step and operates independently, received the accreditation certificate from the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS). Now the company reports the completion of the periodic inspections on offshore wind turbines at the Global Tech I offshore wind farm.

Periodic inspection on 30 wind turbines - Global Tech I important reference

Deutsche Windguard Inspection has now successfully completed recurring inspections on 30 wind turbines at the offshore wind farm Global Tech I in the North Sea. The aim of the periodic inspections is to detect any emerging, potential changes in the condition of the support structure and the rotor-nacelle assembly in good time. The client for the inspection work is Global Tech I Offshore Wind GmbH.

The commissioned scope of services at the wind farm, located around 180 kilometres northwest of Bremerhaven, included the inspection of the tower and nacelle in accordance with the standard design of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).

About the Global Tech I offshore wind farm

At the Global Tech I wind farm, a total of 80 Adwen wind turbines of the 5 MW class produce enough wind power to supply around 445,000 households per year and save around 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ annually. The site is located about 140 km off the German North Sea coast. The wind turbines were erected in a water depth of 40 metres. Global Tech I was officially commissioned at the beginning of September 2015.
