VSB Sells Project Rights to The 190 MW “Miejska Górka” Wind Farm to Polish Energy Supplier Tauron
Wroclaw/Dresden, Poland/Germany - The expansion of wind energy in Poland continues to gain momentum. The international project developer VSB, based in Dresden, and the second-largest Polish energy supplier Turon are cooperating in the construction of wind farms in the country. Tauron is acquiring the project rights to the 190.8 MW “Miejska Górka” wind farm from the VSB Group, with Nordex supplying the turbines.
Miejska Górka” wind farm shortly before the construction phase
The Miejska Górka wind farm is being built in the Rawicz district in the Wielkopolskie voivodeship. Up to 53 Nordex wind turbines with a rated output of 3.6 MW each and a height of 134 meters will be installed. This makes it the second largest onshore wind farm in the country and Tauron's largest investment in this area. The total costs are expected to amount to just under PLN 2 billion.
The wind farm is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2027. Tauron has also commissioned VSB with the further construction and planning work up to the commissioning of the “Miejska Górka” wind farm.
“Wind turbines are an important part of the decarbonization of the Tauron Group's generation mix. The power generation profile of wind farms complements well the energy consumption profile of end users, who are increasingly generating their own energy from photovoltaics. This transaction is a significant step towards achieving the strategic goals of the Tauron Group,” says Michael Orlowski, Vice-President of Tauron Polska Energia for Asset Management and Development.
Tauron: Five wind farms in the construction phase - eleven wind farms in operation
Alongside photovoltaics (three PV plants with a capacity of 200 MW under construction), the construction of wind farms is an important part of the green energy transition for Polish energy supplier Tauron. The second-largest Polish energy supplier currently operates 11 wind farms with a total capacity of 417 MW.
According to Tauron, a further five wind projects with a total capacity of 164 MW are currently in the construction phase. Three of these, with a total capacity of over 120 MW, will be commissioned this year, while the electricity from two further power plants (with a capacity of over 40 MW) will flow in 2025. The Miejska Górka wind farm, which is ready for construction and close to the realization phase, will be the 17th wind farm to be added.
“The transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies is in full swing in Poland. Projects such as the “Miejska Górka” wind farm show what is possible and how we can achieve success on several levels through strategic partnerships - for example, increasing the share of wind and solar in the energy mix, expanding the supply of green electricity for citizens and protecting the climate,” explains Hubert Kowalski, Managing Director of VSB Poland.
