Energiequelle Wins Bids for Wind Projects Exceeding 140 MW – Wind Market Gaining Momentum
Münster, Germany – Following a record subsidy volume of approximately 11,000 MW in the Wind-on-Land auctions of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) in 2024, demand remains high in 2025. This is demonstrated by the Wind-on-Land auction round with the bid deadline of February 1, 2025. The renewable energy developer and operator, Energiequelle GmbH, also benefits from this trend.
Energiequelle GmbH Secures Bids for Five Wind Farms
Among the successful participants in the recent Wind-on-Land auction by the BNetzA, with a bid deadline of February 1, 2025, is Energiequelle GmbH. The developer and operator of wind and photovoltaic (PV) plants, substations, and energy storage systems from Zossen / OT Kallinchen in Brandenburg has secured a bid for five wind farm projects, totaling 143 MW. Energiequelle is pleased that these projects are now a significant step closer to realization.
The awarded projects include wind farms in Schleswig-Holstein (Wulfshagen, 8 turbines, 49.6 MW), Thuringia (Bilzingsleben, 5 turbines, 27.8 MW, and Werther, 4 turbines, 27.2 MW), North Rhine-Westphalia (Minden, 3 turbines, 17.1 MW), and Lower Saxony (Lüben, 5 turbines, 21.3 MW).
“I am pleased that we were able to secure contracts for all submitted projects, allowing us to soon start construction in four federal states. This is another important step for Energiequelle and for our planning security,” says Gregor Weber, Managing Director of Project Management at Energiequelle, expressing his satisfaction with the success.
Since its establishment in 1997, Energiequelle GmbH has already built over 850 plants with a total installed capacity of 1,700 MW.
First Wind-on-Land Auction of 2025 Significantly Oversubscribed – Second Round Ongoing
In the first Wind-on-Land auction of 2025, a total of 506 bids were submitted, with a combined capacity of 4,896 MW, exceeding the announced volume of 4,094 MW by 20%. The BNetzA awarded 422 subsidies with a total capacity of 4,094 MW, precisely meeting the announced target. Six bids had to be excluded from the procedure.
The awarded subsidy values range from 5.62 cents/kWh to 7.13 cents/kWh. Compared to the last round, the average subsidy value has slightly decreased, now standing at 7.00 cents/kWh, down from 7.15 cents/kWh.
North Rhine-Westphalia leads the federal state ranking with 1,266 MW and 145 awards. It is followed by Lower Saxony (475 MW, 49 awards), Brandenburg (443 MW, 43 awards), and Saxony-Anhalt (334 MW, 34 awards). Saxony received the fewest awards, with 57.8 MW, while no subsidies were granted in Saarland and the city-states of Berlin, Hamburg, and Bremen.
The next auction round is scheduled for May 1, 2025. Since May 1, 2025, is a public holiday, the deadline for submissions will be shifted to the next business day, i.e., May 2, 2025 (§§ 188, 193 BGB). The auction volume for the May round is 3,443.2 MW, and the maximum value for this bid deadline is again set at 7.35 cents/kWh.
Wind Energy Expansion in Germany Picks Up in the First Two Months of 2025
As more projects from the auctions move towards realization, the high auction volume seems to be reflected in the increasing commissioning of new wind projects. In the first two months of 2025, 115 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 611.3 MW were commissioned in Germany. Compared to the same period last year, this represents a 37% increase in installed capacity (Jan-Feb 2024: 89 turbines, 445.2 MW). This is based on an initial analysis of data from the Market Master Data Register (MaStR) of the BNetzA by the International Economic Forum for Renewable Energies (IWR) in Münster (Data as of March 20, 2025).
