Expansion: Siemens Gamesa Plans Center for Offshore Wind Nacelles in Taiwan
Zamudio, Spain - Siemens Gamesa plans to build a regional industrial center for the production of nacelles for offshore wind turbines together with Taiwanese suppliers. For this purpose, the nacelle assembly in Taichung is to be expanded to include hub and back-end assembly.
The nacelle production facility is currently under construction and will start production in 2021 to deliver nacelles to Orsted’s Greater Changhua 1&2a offshore wind power project. Once the nacelle assembly work is completed in 2022, Taichung factory expansion will start, Siemens Gamesa announced.
Siemens Gamesa is developing a local nacelle supply chain. To this end, an agreement with the Yeong Guan Group (YGG) for the production of hub and base frame castings was signed in 2019. In addition, Siemens Gamesa has signed four conditional contracts: KK Wind Solutions (production facility for uninterruptible power supply and recruiting), Sinbon (cable production), Atech (nacelle roofing and spinner supply), Würth (procurement of fasteners).
The Siemens Gamesa share, which is listed on the global RENIXX World index, rose last week by 1.3 percent to 13.77 euros. In today's early trading, the share is currently quoted at 12.83 euros, down 2.4 percent (2020-05-20).
