Milestone: Ørsted Produces First Electricity At World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Hornsea 2

Fredericia, Denmark - Turbine commissioning work is in full swing at the UK's Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm, following the completion of installation work on the offshore substation (OSS) and eactive compensation station (RCS) at the end of October.

Now, Danish offshore wind farm developer and operator Ørsted reports the first electricity production. Full commissioning of the offshore wind farm, located approximately 89 kilometers off the east coast of the United Kingdom, is scheduled for next year. With 165 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines, the project has a total capacity of 1,320 MW (1.32 GW). As a result, Hornsea 2 takes over the title of "the world's largest operating offshore wind farm" from its sister project Hornsea 1. Together, the two projects will be able to supply electricity for well over 2.3 million homes, according to Ørsted. Two other projects in the Hornsea zone are also in the works: Hornsea 3 received development approval in December 2020 and Hornsea 4 is currently going through the planning process.

The RENIXX Group's share price is up slightly this week. By Wednesday evening, the Ørsted share price had climbed 1.9 percent to 113.15 euros (closing price Dec. 22, Stuttgart Stock Exchange). In today's trading, the share is currently up 0.6 percent at 113.85 euros (Dec. 23, 2021, 10:30 a.m., Stuttgart Stock Exchange). Over the year as a whole, the share price is down 32 percent.
