Wind Farm Kurzéme: PNE And Swedish Eolus Plan 1,000 MW Offshore Wind Farm in Latvia

Cuxhaven, Germany - PNE AG from Cuxhaven in Germany and the Swedish Eolus Group have established a 50:50 joint venture for the development of the Kurzéme offshore wind farm in Latvia. The wind farm will have an installed capacity of approximately 1,000 MW and is expected to be commissioned before 2030.

"We are keen to bring in our long-term offshore wind experience and know-how to this partnership. Jointly with Eolus as reliable partner, we expect to develop the project successfully," explains Markus Lesser, CEO of PNE AG.

The 50 percent stake in SIA Kurzéme Offshore is an important step in the implementation of the company's Scale up 2.0 strategy, which aims to grow the total project pipeline to more than 20,000 MW/MWp by the end of 2027, Lesser said.

"We have been active in the Baltics for more than ten years and have a solid project portfolio. We see great potential in the Baltic countries, where we are now scaling up our business," says Per Witalisson, CEO of Eolus.

The offshore project area is located in the Baltic Sea outside the west coast of Latvia. The wind farm has the potential to generate 4.5 billion kWh of renewable electricity annually. Eolus has conducted initial studies and developed the project since 2020.

Through the cooperation with PNE, further resources and competences will now be brought into the project. The application for the project has been submitted. The surveys for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be conducted once research license is obtained. The area is subject of an upcoming tender process.
