Milestone Reached For Awel y Môr Offshore Wind Farm in Wales

London, UK - The Awel y Môr offshore wind project in Wales, which is being planned under the leadership of energy supplier RWE, has reached a milestone.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted permission for the development of the wind farm. Up to 50 offshore wind turbines are expected to be installed by 2030.

The new Awel y Môr offshore wind farm is being built alongside the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm, which has already been in operation since 2013/2014 and consists of 160 Siemens Gamesa offshore turbines (SWT 3.6-107) with a capacity of 3.6 MW each and a total capacity of 576 MW.

RWE is developing Awel y Môr in a joint venture with Stadtwerke München (30 percent) and Siemens Financial Services, the financing arm of Siemens (10 percent).

The British government wants to increase offshore wind power capacity from 13.7 GW to 50 GW (50,000 MW) in 2030.
