Tender: Eneco Wins Contract for Wind Farm in Port of Rotterdam

Rotterdam, The Netherlands - Dutch utility Eneco has won the tender for the onshore wind farm Maasvlakte 2 in the Netherlands. Maasvlakte 2 is located on the sea wall of the Maasvlakte 2 industrial and port area, a new landfill extension of the port of Rotterdam, which was commissioned in May 2013.

Eneco has been awarded the contract for the project with a total capacity of over 100 megawatts (MW) by Rijkswaterstaat, the executive agency of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. "Maasvlakte 2 is an excellent location for the development of a new wind farm. I am very proud that Eneco will be able to construct its largest onshore wind farm at this site," said Eneco Wind & Solar Director Cees de Haan.

Eneco estimates that the new wind farm will produce approximately 416 million kilowatt hours of wind power annually. Preparations for construction are to begin in 2022. The project is scheduled to go into operation and start producing electricity by 2023 at the latest. As of 2023, Rijkswaterstaat will purchase all the green power generated by the wind farm.
