US Expansion: Deutsche Windtechnik Acquires Wind Service Division Of Cooke Power Services
Bremen, Germany / Houston, USA - In the USA, the need for experienced service technicians is growing with the increasing expansion of wind energy.
Deutsche Windtechnik doubles number of service technicians - Mitsubishi turbines
In a rapidly growing market for wind services, it is strategically important to find experienced service technicians. With the acquisition of the wind turbine maintenance division of Cooke Power Services, Deutsche Windtechnik USA has doubled the number of service technicians.
The acquisition also includes long-term existing customer contracts, including wind turbines from Mitsubishi with a capacity of 50 MW. All 38 employees in the service segment are now part of Deutsche Windtechnik. Paul Cooke, owner of Cooke Power Services sees only advantages for all parties involved: "It was the right time to transfer our team and service capabilities to Deutsche Windtechnik as jointly they will form a unique unit to provide high quality O&M services to MHI wind turbine owners in the US reaching from maintenance and repair services to full scope agreements, which is in the best interest of the employees and asset owners." Cooke Power Services continues to operate its "High Voltage" and "Substation Construction" businesses on its own.
Steady US growth - new service center in Texas
Deutsche Windtechnik USA started its first long-term service contract in April 2019 and currently reaches a wind service capacity of 1.6 GW. Services for Siemens, Mitsubishi, NEG Micon, GE and Nordex turbines are now the focus. A new service center will open in Amarillo, Texas, in the fourth quarter of 2021, strategically located in the heart of wind assets in the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, and Colorado. The acquisition will allow Deutsche Windtechnik to beneficially add the Mitsubishi expertise of former Cooke employees to its existing business in the U.S. in particular.
Nevertheless, growth in the U.S. is expected to continue for Deutsche Windtechnik. Further service contracts and expansion plans for the team are already being planned for Deutsche Windtechnik USA.
