Wpd And Australias Energy Develop Offshore Wind Projects In Australia

In March 2022, the Australian government of the state of Victoria committed to developing an offshore wind industry, supporting the transition to a zero-emissions economy by 2050, and creating new jobs. In terms of implementation, this means an initial 2,000 MW (2 GW) of offshore wind capacity will be built by 2032 and a total of 9 GW by 2040.

Offshore wind energy in Australia - Wpd and Australias Energy enter into a joint venture

Wpd's Australian subsidiary Wpd offshore Australia Holding GmbH and Australis Energy Ltd. have entered into a 50 : 50 joint venture to develop three offshore wind projects in Australia. The development of the three projects located in the coastal waters of the states of Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia with a total installed capacity of 1.4 GW has already been driven by Australis in recent years. With the joint venture now completed, the projects can be taken through the next phases of project planning.

Wpd enters phase 3

Phases 1 and 2 of the three offshore projects have already been successfully completed. With the entry into the joint venture, Wpd will now assist with Phase 3, including the completion of environmental studies and environmental impact assessments (ESIAs), further data collection, landowner agreements, grid access agreements, and planning, permitting and licensing for the projects.

Wpd, as one of the pioneers of offshore wind energy in Europe, has also already established a strong presence in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region with successful project developments and local teams in markets such as Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines. Among others, Wpd is currently implementing the 640 MW Yunlin project in Taiwan, which will be one of the largest offshore wind projects in the APAC region once completed. In Australia, Wpd has established its subsidiary Wpd offshore Australia Pty Ltd. and is currently expanding its local development team.

Australis Energy Ltd. is registered in England and Wales, has gained extensive experience in planning and implementing projects in the UK and has established itself in Australia in recent years. Together with Wpd, the company is now aiming to become a pioneer in an emerging market for offshore wind energy in Australia.
