RWE Secures Capacities: RWE Signs Framework Agreement For Monopile Foundations With Steelwind

Essen, Germany - RWE has signed a framework agreement with Steelwind Nordenham, a company of the Dillinger Group, for the production of up to 300 monopile foundations for RWE offshore wind projects. With this contract, the energy group secures production capacities in a market characterized by scarce resources in the supply chain.

Steelwind will reserve capacity for 320,000 tons of steel at its Nordenham plant over a 24-month period from 2027 to produce around 200 monopile foundations. According to RWE, the contract can be extended by a further 12 months. An additional capacity of 160,000 tons of steel is planned, which corresponds to around 100 monopile foundations.

The foundations produced by Steelwind are to be used in offshore wind farms that RWE plans to commission in Europe from the end of 2029. The agreement also provides for RWE to make use of additional services from Steelwind, such as the supply of secondary steel structures or in the area of storage and logistics.

With this agreement, RWE, one of the world's leading companies in the field of renewable energies, and Dillinger, Europe's leading manufacturer of heavy steel plate, are continuing their long-standing cooperation.

“Europe needs more offshore wind power to reach its ambitious climate targets. We are making our contribution and resolutely driving forward the expansion of offshore wind in Europe and globally. By signing an agreement with Steelwind, RWE has taken a big step towards securing the necessary production capacity for monopile foundations and delivering our European offshore wind development projects,” said Dr. Holger Himmel, CFO RWE Offshore Wind, welcoming the deal.

Both partners have agreed not to disclose any financial details.
