Repowering Wind Farm in Rasslitz Commissioned: Energiequelle Replaces Previous Wind Turbines With Modern Enercon E-160 Units

Kallinchen, Raßlitz / Germany – After years of planning, Energiequelle GmbH has successfully connected its repowering wind farm in Raßlitz, Saxony, to the grid. Two modern wind turbines of the Enercon E-160 type have replaced two older E-58 turbines, increasing the site’s total capacity from previously two to now eleven megawatts.

Implementing the project was associated with numerous challenges. Initial planning began back in 2013. It then took another seven years before the potential area was finally designated as a priority and suitable zone for wind energy in the regional development plan. With the establishment of planning rights in 2020, Energiequelle was able to submit the permit application under the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). Final approval was granted in autumn 2022.

According to Energiequelle, one particularly demanding aspect was the construction of their own substation, which became necessary contrary to the original plans. After successfully completing the tendering process, Energiequelle was informed that the originally planned substation was no longer available due to increased utilization. “ We had to quickly mobilize all resources to build our own substation,” reports Fabian Musall, Head of Project Management at Energiequelle’s Dresden site. Since June 20, 2025, the turbines have now been feeding electricity into the public grid.

Shortly before commissioning, the Raßlitz wind farm was sold to Hamburg-based Encavis AG. Energiequelle, active in the renewable energy market since 1997, has thus successfully completed another repowering project, simultaneously contributing to regional energy transition and supply security.
