Infineon Relies on Green Electricity at Four Locations: Infineon Signs Ten-Year Power Purchase Agreement with PNE

Cuxhaven (Germany) - Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are becoming increasingly strategically important for companies. In view of volatile electricity markets and growing demands for climate neutrality, they offer a reliable way to secure long-term clean electricity at fixed, calculable prices.

For industry, PPAs are therefore a key instrument to secure sustainable energy supply and to achieve their own climate targets.

The semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with PNE AG. The contract stipulates that Infineon will purchase green electricity from two Brandenburg wind farms over a period of ten years. The locations Dresden, Warstein, Regensburg, and Munich/Neubiberg will be supplied in this way.

The wind farms “Schlenzer” and “Kittlitz III” have a combined capacity of 24 megawatts. Over the duration of the contract, approximately 550 million kilowatt-hours (550 gigawatt-hours) of electricity will be delivered. This corresponds to the annual consumption of around 137,000 households.

PNE sees the agreement as a signal of the growing importance of long-term PPAs in the industrial sector. “We’re pleased to support industrial companies such as Infineon in achieving their own climate and production decarbonization targets,” said Roland Stanze, Chief Operating Officer of PNE AG.

The contract was signed in a market environment marked by uncertainties, where industrial buyers as well as green electricity producers face increasing volatility and uncertainty. “This is why a balanced distribution of risk, innovative trading concepts and mutual trust are all the more important in such long-term partnerships”, said Christoph Reisky, Senior PPA Originator at PNE.

This step underscores Infineon’s efforts to ensure a sustainable energy supply for its production sites. At the same time, it strengthens the PPA model as an important instrument for financing renewable energy in Germany.
