The smarter E Europe: Special Exhibition “Renewables 24/7” Highlights Around-the-Clock Renewable Energy Supply

Munich/Pforzheim (Germany) - The transformation of the energy system is becoming increasingly urgent in light of geopolitical uncertainties. At the trade fair alliance The smarter E Europe, taking place in Munich from June 23 to 25, the feasibility of a renewable energy supply around the clock is therefore at the center of attention.

With the special exhibition “Renewables 24/7,” concrete solutions for a stable, fully renewable energy system are being showcased. The background is the dynamic development of renewable energy: according to the International Energy Agency, global capacity is expected to grow to 2.6 times the 2022 level by 2030. In Germany, the share of renewables in electricity generation is already around 60 percent. A supporting study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, which will be presented at the opening of the trade fair, is intended to scientifically underpin the supply security of such a system.

The special exhibition is structured into the thematic worlds of industry, commercial, residential, and mobility. The focus is on integrated approaches to generation, storage, flexibility, and digitalization. These are intended to address existing challenges caused by the fluctuating electricity production from wind and solar energy.

“Electricity from solar and wind is already unbeatably cheap. The energy transition is unstoppable and delaying it will only damage the economy,” explains Markus Elsässer, Managing Director of Solar Promotion GmbH. A secure supply, he adds, is ensured “through flexibility, the combination with intelligent storage systems, digital grid solutions, and sector coupling.”

In addition to technological aspects, the economic dimension is also coming into focus. Germany spends around 81 billion euros annually on fossil fuel imports. Electrification of key sectors could significantly increase domestic value creation. “It demonstrates that the energy transition is not only possible, but also economically, politically, and socially sensible,” says Jens Mohrmann of Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG.

With around 2,800 exhibitors and more than 100,000 expected visitors, The smarter E Europe is considered a central platform of the European energy industry.
