Following the Acquisition of Ørsted’s European Onshore Business: Perigus Energy Emerges as a New Player for Wind, Solar, and Storage in Europe

Regensburg (Germany) – A new player is emerging in the European onshore renewables market with the creation of Perigus Energy. Following the acquisition of Ørsted’s European onshore business by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), the platform now operates under a new name. The company brings together projects across several core European markets and is focusing on the accelerated expansion of wind, solar, and storage.

The newly formed Perigus Energy has 826 MW under construction and in operation, as well as a project pipeline totaling several gigawatts in Germany, Ireland, Spain, and the United Kingdom. With around 30 years of experience in Germany, the company positions itself as a long-term developer, operator, and investor in the European energy market.

CIP completes billion-euro deal: Perigus Energy emerges as new onshore platform

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has completed the acquisition of Ørsted’s European onshore business and will operate the platform under the name Perigus Energy going forward. The transaction was carried out via the CI V fund and has a volume of €1.44 billion. The new brand replaces the previous structure while maintaining operational continuity, existing contracts, and all employees.

Perigus Energy will focus on the development, construction, and operation of wind, solar, and battery storage projects in four core markets: Germany, Ireland, Spain, and the United Kingdom. According to the company, its portfolio already supplies around 600,000 households in Europe with electricity from renewable sources.

All existing power purchase agreements (CPPAs) and government-supported projects will remain unchanged, while the platform is being reorganized structurally.

Gigawatt pipeline in focus: Perigus Energy is geared toward growth

At the core of the new Perigus Energy is a broadly diversified project pipeline totaling several gigawatts. This includes onshore wind, solar energy, and battery storage projects. The goal is to gradually bring these projects into construction and operation over the coming years and expand installed capacity.

Currently, the new platform has a total capacity of 826 MW in operation and under construction. At the same time, five wind and solar projects are being implemented in Germany and Ireland. The operational foundation is supported by a combination of long-term power purchase agreements and government support mechanisms.

CIP sees strategic milestone for Europe’s energy transition

CIP partner Kunal Patel described the transaction as “a major milestone for continued growth in European onshore renewables.” Perigus Energy combines “a proven team, an established operating portfolio, and a promising multi-gigawatt pipeline across core European power markets.”

From the company’s perspective, the transformation is also seen as a strategic evolution. CEO Kieran White emphasized continuity in direction: “And so, while our name is new, our people are experienced, and our mission the same. The high volatility in international energy markets demonstrates clearly Europe’s need for secure, homegrown and green electricity. With Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on board, we will enhance our delivery capability across our multi-gigawatt investment-ready pipeline spanning onshore wind, solar and battery storage.”

30 years of experience in Germany: Regional base remains intact

In Germany, Perigus Energy has a long-standing market presence. The company was founded in 1992 as OSTWIND and has been part of Ørsted since 2022. The regional structure will remain intact, with locations including Regensburg, Lauf an der Pegnitz, Potsdam, Essen, and Hamburg.

Overall, Perigus Energy employs more than 200 people across Europe. Its headquarters are located in Cork, Ireland, complemented by offices in London, Edinburgh, and Madrid. For Germany, Managing Director Stefan Bachmaier emphasized the importance of regional roots, stating that these will remain a key success factor for expanding renewable energy even within the new corporate structure.

Focus on scaling: Contribution to European energy supply

With its integration into the CIP portfolio, Perigus Energy will place a stronger emphasis on scaling in the future. The goal is to bring the existing project pipeline into operational generation capacity more quickly, thereby contributing to Europe’s energy supply and security of supply.
