Enertrag Invests €1.1 Billion in Wind Power and Battery Storage in France – 1-Gigawatt Target by 2030

Dauerthal/Versailles – Enertrag has announced an investment programme of €1.1 billion for the French market at the "Choose France" summit at the Palace of Versailles. Some of the planned projects are based on hybrid energy infrastructures that intelligently combine renewable generation, battery storage and grid flexibility.

With a target of at least 100 MW of newly installed capacity per year, Enertrag is systematically expanding its presence in France, where it has been active for more than 25 years. Among the planned projects are so-called Energy Hubs – hybrid configurations that combine renewable generation and battery storage to improve the grid integration of renewable energies. Two concrete projects in northern France and south-west France already illustrate this approach. By 2030, Enertrag aims to reach an installed capacity of one gigawatt in France.

Energy Hubs for Greater Grid Flexibility and Storage Integration: Renewable Energy and Storage Intelligently Combined

Enertrag is pursuing an approach in France that goes beyond pure power generation. The company's Energy Hubs combine renewable generation with battery storage and controllable feed-in – with the aim of providing grid flexibility and making more efficient use of existing grid capacities.

"Renewable energy development is entering a new phase in which our ability to intelligently integrate generation into the power grid plays a central role," explains Vincent Masureel, Managing Director of Enertrag France. "With its Energy Hubs, Enertrag is developing configurations that combine renewable generation, storage and controllability."

CEO Dr. Gunar Hering emphasises the long-term commitment: "France is one of Enertrag's strategic key markets, and we plan to strengthen our presence. Our investment plan demonstrates our long-term industrial and financial commitment, built on more than 25 years of experience and dedication."

Two Flagship Projects in Hauts-de-France and Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Two concrete projects illustrate the Hub approach in practice. In the Hauts-de-France region in the north of the country, a 120 MW hub is being built that combines two wind farms with a battery storage facility. Commissioning is planned for March 2027. In the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in south-west France, a 110 MW hub will link three wind farms with a battery storage system.

Both projects will enable optimised management of energy flows and more efficient use of existing grid infrastructure, according to the company. Further hubs based on the same architecture are in preparation across France, Enertrag says.

France as a Key Market: 1 GW by 2030 and Regional Presence

The investment programme is part of Enertrag's broader growth strategy. The company employs more than 1,200 people and develops energy projects with a total capacity of over 30 gigawatts across nine countries on four continents. Enertrag says it generates around 2,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity from wind and solar power annually.

With the €1.1 billion programme and the target of one gigawatt of installed capacity by 2030, Enertrag is underlining its long-term industrial and financial commitment to France and its confidence in the attractiveness of the French market for renewable energy projects.
