Katherina Reiche's Contested Energy Plans: German Cabinet Approves 2027 EEG Amendment and Grid Connection Package – Final Legislative Text Still Pending
Berlin – Germany's federal cabinet on Wednesday (29 July) approved the 2027 amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) along with an accompanying grid connection package, advancing the legislation to its next stage. The government draft bills, which will contain the binding legislative text, have not yet been published, however.
Wednesday's cabinet approval marks the transition to the parliamentary legislative process. Once the government bills are published, deliberations will begin in the Bundestag and Bundesrat. The draft legislation may still be amended during this stage, meaning the final version of the 2027 EEG amendment and the grid connection package will not be settled until the legislative process concludes.
The federal government aims to complete the legislative process before the end of 2026, as the EEG's approval under EU state aid rules is set to expire at year-end.
