Europe's Wind Market Grows – Nordex Secures 220 MW in Orders

Hamburg – Europe's wind market is expanding, and turbines from the Nordex Group are in demand across several markets. The turbine manufacturer has reported new orders totalling around 220 MW from Germany, France, Portugal and Spain so far this week.

Europe installed 8.8 GW of new wind capacity in the first half of 2026, according to the European wind energy association WindEurope. That is 30 percent more than a year earlier. Onshore accounted for the bulk, at 74 percent. Germany led in the first half, and installations also rose significantly in Denmark, Poland, Portugal and France. The association expects 24 GW for the full year, up from 19.1 GW in 2025.

Nordex in France, Portugal and Spain: 34 Turbines of Five Types

For projects in France, Portugal and Spain, the Nordex Group will supply and install a total of 34 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 175 MW. The orders also include multi-year service contracts intended to ensure high technical availability and long-term energy production. The orders comprise eight N175/6.X turbines, four N163/6.X, four N149/4.X, nine N133/4800 and nine N131/3600.

According to Nordex, the turbine types selected reflect differing wind conditions and permitting procedures in the three countries. The company did not disclose the names of the customers or wind farms. All projects are scheduled to be installed and commissioned between 2027 and 2028.

Navaris Orders 42 MW in Rhineland-Palatinate: Hub Heights of up to 179 Metres

The German order comes from project developer Navaris for the Lambacher Höh wind farm, southwest of Bitburg near the Luxembourg border. Nordex will supply and install four N163/6.X turbines with a hub height of 164 metres and two N175/6.X turbines with a hub height of 179 metres, all on hybrid towers. The 42 MW order also includes a 20-year premium service contract. The first turbine is due to be installed in January 2028, with full commissioning planned for July 2028.

Navaris is the German platform of the Spanish Qualitas Energy group. Since September 17, 2026, the platform has operated under the name Navaris, bringing together the German teams and projects built up since 2018. In the August 1, 2026 onshore wind tender round, Navaris said it won awards for all of the bids it submitted: 11 projects with 46 turbines and a combined 304.5 MW, around 12 percent of the 2,523 MW awarded. According to the company, Navaris manages around 1.3 GW of capacity in operation or under construction, plus projects of more than 3 GW in advanced development.

Europe: Germany Ahead of the UK and Spain, Awards Total 17.2 GW

Of the 8.8 GW installed, 6.5 GW was onshore, compared with 6 GW in the first half of 2025, and 2.3 GW was offshore. Offshore capacity connected to the grid was more than three times the 741 MW added in the same period a year earlier. In the ranking by newly installed capacity, Germany led, followed by the United Kingdom (789 MW), Spain (612 MW), France (556 MW), Denmark (495 MW) and Poland (456 MW), according to WindEurope. In Germany, 513 wind turbines with 3,464 MW entered operation from January to June 2026, based on an IWR analysis of data from the Market Master Data Register of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). Of these, 429 were onshore turbines with 2,387 MW and 84 were offshore turbines with 1,077 MW.

Awards for 17.2 GW of wind capacity were made in tenders in the first half of 2026, of which 8.8 GW was onshore and 8.4 GW offshore. Investment decisions totalling EUR 9 billion were taken for new wind farms, financing 5.2 GW of future capacity, including 4.5 GW onshore. For the second half of the year, governments in Europe plan tenders for more than 24 GW. By 2030, WindEurope expects Europe to add 148 GW, including the 8.8 GW installed in the first half of 2026. Of this, 111 GW would be in the EU. Installed wind capacity would thereby rise to 436 GW in Europe and 342 GW in the EU.
