Wind Market Scandinavia: Wpd Secures Grid Connection For Large-scale Combined Wind Power Project in Sweden
Bremen, Germany - Sweden is facing a growing demand for electricity and forecasts indicate that the country's electricity consumption could double as Sweden electrifies larger parts of its industry and transport sectors. An important role in meeting the growing demand for electricity will be played by the expansion of wind power.
The projects are located in the municipalities of Rättvik and Ovanåker in the central Swedish provinces of Dalarna and Gävleborg. The environmental permits allow the construction of up to 80 turbines at Broboberget and 35 turbines at Lannaberget.
"We have driven the project forward with all the commitment and know-how of our experienced team and are pleased that we have mastered the next stage towards construction and commissioning of the project. With our outstanding expertise as an experienced partner for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), we are looking forward to new partnerships with the Swedish industry and international corporations which are interested to invest in Sweden", commented Wpd Scandinavia Managing Director Johanna Bohn on the milestone now achieved.
The combined wind farm is currently the largest in the province of Dalarna. It is expected to be an important piece of the puzzle in meeting the growing industrial demand for renewable power generation in the region. According to Wpd, the hilly sites offer good wind conditions and are located far from settlements in predominantly forestry areas.
Wpd is now proceeding with detailed project planning and has started discussions with turbine suppliers. Commissioning of the first phase of the grid connection by grid operator Ellevio is planned for 2027.
