Iberdrola Focuses On PPAs: Iberdrola Remains Market Leader in Long-Term Power Contracts in Europe

Bilbao (Spain) - The expansion of long-term power supply contracts for renewable energy, known as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), is a key pillar for electrification, the further rollout of renewable energies and the decarbonisation of industry.

According to the latest Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2026, the Spanish energy group Iberdrola has ranked as Europe’s market leader in the PPA segment for the third consecutive year.

Worldwide, Iberdrola’s long-term power supply contracts now amount to a total volume of 400 terawatt hours (TWh), including agreements in Spain, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Australia, Portugal, Italy and Poland.

Iberdrola’s PPA partners include major multinational companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Telefónica, Mercedes-Benz, Heineken and Renault. The company views this as a sign of growing demand from businesses seeking to advance their decarbonisation efforts. Through PPAs, Iberdrola provides industrial customers with “access to 100% renewable energy at stable, long-term prices”, helping to reduce emissions while strengthening competitiveness.

In the PPA segment, Iberdrola pursues a strategy based on a “diversified portfolio of renewable energy projects”, combining offshore and onshore wind power, solar energy, hydropower and battery storage solutions. This approach allows each contract to be tailored “to the specific needs of customers”, according to Iberdrola.

According to its own information, Iberdrola is Europe’s largest energy utility by market capitalisation and the world’s second largest overall. The company employs more than 46,000 people and has assets worth over €160 billion.
