Turkey Relies on Wind Energy - Enercon And Partners Plan 2,500 MW Wind Power Capacity
Berlin - Germany and Turkey are continuing their energy partnership with the expansion of onshore wind energy. The Turkish energy companies I? Enerji and Polat Enerji and the wind turbine manufacturer Enercon signed a declaration of intent today (November 27, 2024) at the German-Turkish Energy Forum in Berlin to install a further 2,500 MW of onshore capacity.
In the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the partners agreed to jointly realize onshore projects in Turkey and nearby countries with a total capacity of 2,500 MW of wind power over the next five years. As part of this cooperation, Enercon will supply and install the turbine technology and provide long-term service for the wind farms constructed.

Three companies that are among the pioneers of the wind industry in Turkey have joined forces for the cooperation. Polat Enerji is the largest wind energy operator in Turkey with an installed capacity of over 740 MW and has been one of Enercon's key international customers for many years.
Is Enerji is also one of the largest producers of renewable energy in Turkey, holds a 50 percent share in Polat Enerji's portfolio and, according to Enercon, operates two separate wind farms with a total installed capacity of 84 MW and a wind expansion potential of 40 MW, bringing the total capacity to 833 MW and the potential to 873 MW.
With a total capacity of around 13 GW (13,000 MW), Turkey is the sixth largest onshore wind market in Europe. Enercon alone has installed over 3 GW (3,000 MW) of this in the past 27 years.
